Why we do not make Google Shopping feeds
CatalogBadge puts your price, the discount, a pay-later line and your logo on product images. Google Shopping does not allow that, so we do not make feeds for Google Merchant Center, and we will not add them later.
What Google’s rule says
Google’s own specification for the product image (Image link [image_link]) tells sellers not to use an image that contains promotional elements or overlays: text such as “sale” or “free delivery”, prices, badges, watermarks or logos placed over the product. A product whose main image breaks this rule can be disapproved and stop showing in Shopping ads and free listings, and repeated problems can put a warning on the whole Merchant Center account. Google can also strip such overlays itself through its automatic image improvements, which would undo the work anyway.
Why we do not offer it “just in case”
- It would put your account at risk. A feed of branded images is exactly what the rule forbids. Selling you a Google feed would mean selling you disapprovals.
- Our promise is never to break your catalog. We only publish a feed that the platform reading it accepts. For Google, that feed would be your own photos, which you already have.
- Meta, Snapchat, TikTok and Pinterest allow it. Their catalog ads accept product images that carry a price or an offer, so that is where our images go.
What to do with your Google feed
Nothing. Keep sending Google the feed your store or feed app already makes, with your plain product photos. CatalogBadge reads your feed and never writes to it, so your Google Shopping listings are not affected when you start using us. Prices and offers still reach Google shoppers through the price and sale price fields of that feed, and through Merchant Center promotions, which Google shows next to the product rather than on the image.
Where your branded images go instead is in the Meta and Snapchat guides, and in the output feeds page. Questions? Write to hello@catalogbadge.com.
