Image URLs

https://img.catalogbadge.com/r/{public_id}/{sku}/{fingerprint}_{size}_{lang}.jpg
  • public_id: your store's random ID.
  • sku: the product's ID from your feed. An ID with characters that are not safe in a URL (or longer than 64 characters) is replaced by a short hash of it.
  • fingerprint: a hash of everything that produced the image: the product's data, its price and offer, the template and its version, your brand settings and the photo's bytes.
  • size: 1x1, 4x5, 9x16 or 2x3.
  • lang: ar or en.

An image never changes at its address

Meta and Snapchat download an image again only when its URL changes. So when anything on an image changes, the new image gets a new fingerprint and a new URL, and the feed points at it. We never overwrite an image at an address already in use. Images are served with Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable.

An image that a newer one replaced stays online for 30 days, so ads and catalogs that still hold the old link keep working while they catch up.

Image URLs are public, because Meta and Snapchat fetch them without signing in. They contain nothing secret and cannot be guessed or listed.

Sizes

SizePixelsWhere it goes
1:11080 × 1080The main image (image_link). Always on.
4:51080 × 1350Additional image for feeds. Switch it on in the store's Rules tab.
9:161080 × 1920Additional image for Stories and Reels, with badges kept clear of the app's buttons. Switch it on in the Rules tab.
2:31080 × 1620The image in the Pinterest feed, with fewer elements so the pin stays clean. Switch it on in the Rules tab, under Sizes and language.

Images are JPEGs of around 200 KB, well under Snapchat's 5 MB limit. You can see every template in every size on the templates page.

Languages

Every store gets images in its feed's language. When you add your feed in the other language as well, products with a title in that language also get images in it, and the language feeds (output feeds) carry them to Meta. An English image never shows an Arabic title, and the reverse.

Your product photos

We download each photo once and keep a copy, so your server is not asked for it on every update. A photo must be a direct image link under 10 MB that answers within 10 seconds. Photos smaller than 500 pixels are drawn but flagged in your health report. If you replace a photo at the same URL, we notice within about a week and redraw the image.
