Salla to Meta: branded catalog ad images

Salla stores get branded Meta catalog ad images by giving CatalogBadge their Salla catalog link, then adding one of our files to the catalog Meta already has. Prices and stock keep coming from Salla; only the images change. CatalogBadge plans start at $49 a month in US dollars, and your feeds carry your own photos until a plan or free trial is active.

Step 1: get your product feed from Salla

  1. In your Salla dashboard, open Marketing, then Pixels & feeds (Tracking tools on some dashboards), and choose Catalog.
  2. Pick the language and currency and generate the link. Salla makes one link per language and currency and keeps it current as you edit products.
  3. Start with the language most of your titles are written in, usually Arabic, and copy the link.

Salla’s catalog link already carries prices written as 249 ر.س or SAR 249.00, in Western or Arabic digits, and we read them exactly. A second link in English later gives you English images too. The link generator needs a paid Salla plan (Plus, Special or Pro): on the free Basic plan it is locked, so a Basic store waits for the CatalogBadge Salla app.

Step 2: add the feed to CatalogBadge

Create your account, choose Onboard a store and paste the feed URL. The wizard shows sample products with their prices before anything is saved, then you pick your designs, check them in the preview and go live. Create your account

The Salla setup guide has every screen of the wizard.

Step 3: put meta-supp.csv / meta-full.xml into Meta

Which file you paste depends on how your Meta catalog gets products today:

Your Meta catalog todayPasteWhat you do
Filled by Salla’s Meta (Facebook and Instagram) integrationmeta-supp.csvKeep the integration and add our file as a supplementary feed on its data source. It changes only the images.
Reads the Salla catalog link as a scheduled data feedmeta-full.xmlReplace the Salla link in that data feed with ours. It carries every Salla field unchanged apart from the images.

In Meta

  1. Open Commerce Manager, choose the catalog your Facebook and Instagram catalog ads use, then open Catalog and Data sources.
  2. Make the change from the table above on that catalog: swap the scheduled data feed URL, or add a supplementary feed to the source your platform created.
  3. Set the schedule to hourly and save. Choose Upload now on a data feed for a first fetch straight away.
  4. Keep the same catalog. Your ad sets point at it, so deleting it and starting again would cut them off.

The image Meta gets

A fixture product drawn by CatalogBadge at the ratio Meta reads

Meta takes the 1:1 image as the main picture of each product. Turn on 4:5 and 9:16 in Rules and they go in as additional images for feed and Stories placements. A product whose image is not drawn yet keeps its own photo, never an older render that shows a different price.

Watch out

A supplementary feed matches products by id, so the id in our file must be the one Salla’s integration gave the product in Meta. Check two or three in Commerce Manager after the first fetch. Right after you go live the supplementary file may hold few rows, and it fills as the images are drawn.

Selling in Saudi Arabia

Prices stay in riyals exactly as your feed writes them, the discount badge rounds down, and a tabby or tamara line can show the instalment on the image.

Season presets for Saudi Arabia, such as White Friday, Ramadan, Founding Day and Saudi National Day, switch your designs on the dates you choose.

Check that it worked

  • The store’s Overview page in CatalogBadge shows when Meta last fetched each file.
  • In Commerce Manager, open Items and a product you expect to be branded: its image address starts with https://img.catalogbadge.com/.
  • The first fetch can take a few hours to show in Commerce Manager and in ads.

Questions

Can I show English images to English-speaking shoppers?

Yes. Generate a second Salla catalog link in English with the same currency, paste it as the English feed on the Overview page and switch English on in Rules. Meta then gets a language feed, meta-lang-en.csv, that you add under Country and language feeds.

Do I need a Salla app for this?

No, on a paid Salla plan. The catalog link Salla generates is all CatalogBadge reads today. A CatalogBadge app for the Salla App Store is built but not listed yet; until it is, the link is the way in.
