Shopify to TikTok: branded catalog ad images

Shopify stores get branded TikTok catalog ad images by reading their products through a Shopify feed app into CatalogBadge and giving a TikTok catalog our tiktok-full.csv on an hourly Replace schedule. That catalog then holds your products with branded images. CatalogBadge plans start at $49 a month in US dollars, and your feeds carry your own photos until a plan or free trial is active.

Step 1: get your product feed from Shopify

  1. The Facebook and Instagram sales channel syncs a catalog without a readable feed URL, so install a product feed app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Create a feed with each product’s id, title, price, compare-at price, availability, link and image, in Meta or Google Shopping format.
  3. Use the same ids your sales channels already give your products, then copy the feed URL.

Each variant listed as its own item, a colour or a size, gets its own image and counts as its own product on your plan.

Step 2: add the feed to CatalogBadge

Create your account, choose Onboard a store and paste the feed URL. The wizard shows sample products with their prices before anything is saved, then you pick your designs, check them in the preview and go live. Create your account

The Shopify setup guide has every screen of the wizard.

Step 3: put tiktok-full.csv into TikTok

Which file you paste depends on how your TikTok catalog gets products today:

In TikTok

  1. In TikTok Ads Manager, open Assets, then Catalogs, and choose the catalog for your catalog ads.
  2. Add products with a data feed schedule and paste your tiktok-full.csv URL.
  3. Set the schedule to hourly and the update method to Replace, so a product that leaves our file leaves the catalog too. Update would keep it with its old price and image.
  4. Use one of our two TikTok files per catalog, the CSV or its XML twin, never both: TikTok refuses a product that a second data source already added.

The image TikTok gets

A fixture product drawn by CatalogBadge at the ratio TikTok reads

TikTok’s file carries the 1:1 image first and, when you turn them on, the 4:5 and 9:16 renders as additional images, JPG or PNG, at most ten per product. The 9:16 is the one shown here. TikTok has no supplementary feed, so this file is your whole TikTok catalog.

Watch out

Shopify’s vendor field is usually what a feed app exports as brand; set it on every product, and add condition new in the app or as a TikTok column under Feed & mapping, or TikTok leaves those products out.

Check that it worked

  • The Overview page lists how many products went into the TikTok file and, per reason, the ones left out.
  • In Ads Manager the catalog shows its last schedule run, the products taken and any rejected.
  • TikTok pauses catalog updates after 28 days without catalog ad spend, so prices there go stale while those ads are off.

Questions

Do my Shopify variants become separate TikTok products?

Each variant your feed app lists as its own item becomes its own row in the TikTok file, with its own image, and counts as a product on your plan.

Do I keep the Facebook and Instagram sales channel?

Yes. It keeps sending prices and stock to Meta. CatalogBadge only reads your products through the feed app and changes the images.
